"Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden
Birthday wishes go out today to Chris Cornell, the voice of such hit-making bands as Soundgarden and Audioslave; in addition to a distinctive voice, this godfather of grunge also has one of the best heads of hair to ever emerge from Seattle.
Black Hole Sun appeared on Soundgarden's 1994 album Superunknown; it was (commercially, at least) the band's biggest hit. The video was directed by Howard Greenhalgh.

I love this song, even though I have no idea what it's about.
As nice as it was for Seattle to be the center of top 40 music for a couple of years, I always found grunge to be really depressing, and never got into it.
Fairly typically for me, I was not into grunge at all when it was first popular; it's only been in retrospect that I've been able to sort the wheat from the chaff. I was the same way with heavy metal in the Eighties and punk in the Seventies.
According to the songwriter himself (Cornell) the song isn't really about anything, just playing with images brought up by the title. Apparently it was written in 15 minutes.
