On this day in 1981 the greatest fairy tale of modern times was enacted when Lady Diana Spencer - youngest daughter of Earl Spencer and Mrs. Frances Shand Kydd - married The Prince of Wales at St Paul's Cathedral in London. It's nothing to do with pretty. It has to do with the corrosive power of myth.

"They all lived happily ever after..." is not the end of anything, but the beginning.
