Dems To Debate Gay Agenda

I thought it would be nice, for a change, to discuss a political issue (or, for that matter, any issue) and not be cynical. I'm not quite sure how to do that, so please bear with me.

It seems that all the major Democratic candidates for President are getting together to discuss gay rights. How momentous!

What great strides we've made since 1980, when Ted Kennedy and Jimmy Carter first discussed gay rights at the Democratic National Convention.

That first-class citizenship we're entitled to must be right around the corner.

(Sorry, that's the best I could do. It turns out I can also read the ingredients on a packet of soup mix and make it sound sarcastic. It's a gift, it's a curse...)

It must be so strange for Canadian LGBT folks, having gone through the last couple years of emerging as full citizens, to think about their American friends still so far behind.

I know that the thought of full-citizenship north of the 49th parallel is extremely appealing for me personally, but if I weren't engaged to a Canadian man I would be burning with so much anger at my country. OK. so much *more* anger at my country.

The Democrats are just doing what Clinton (mr) did. Get the Gays all worked up then stab them in the back once in office. Candidates only work for those who vote for them but elected officials have to work for everyone. Even the wing-nut crazy-eyed worshippers of the baby jeebus.

Dang that democracy!

The Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask Don't Tell both rank as the most colossal failures in the history of the modern Presidency.

I get that candidates pander and elected officials ought to govern everybody. Yet queers vote and get nothing, barely even promises up front.
