I've yet to see a religion come out of a desert that didn't produce bloodshed, torture and other abominations.
"It's not the heat, it's the stupidity," as I used to say when I lived in Kelowna (which is a Bible-belt located in Canada's only desert).

Although your jungle religions like Hinduism have spilt their fair share of blood - to be fair, they were usually defending themselves against Islam at the time.
