Farah Diba originally set out to be an architect; even after she married Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, in December 1959, she continued in her chosen profession, eventually designing Iran's elegant and innovative Carpet Museum, which opened in 1976.In exile since January 1979, the Shahbanou currently divides her time between Cairo, Paris, New York City, and Washington, DC, where her oldest son leads a movement to restore the Iranian monarchy and overthrow the illegal occupation of the mullahs.
Perennially one of the world's most glamourous women, Empress Farah Pahlavi published her memoirs in 2003. Entitled An Enduring Love: My Life with the Shah - A Memoir, it was a bestseller around the world.
